Dittany of Crete is a rare, aromatic herb native to the mountains of Crete, with soft, silvery leaves and pale pink flowers. Closely related to oregano, it carries a warm, resinous scent and a long tradition of use in both medicine and magic. Valued since ancient times for its healing and mystical properties, Dittany was once considered one of the most sacred plants of the ancient world.

Uses

Traditionally used as a herbal tea or incense for relaxation, protection and inspiration. Dittany can be added to blends for meditation or ritual work and has a warm, uplifting flavour when brewed as a tea.

Directions for use

For tea, steep ½–1 teaspoon of dried Dittany in freshly boiled water for 5–10 minutes. For incense, burn on a charcoal disc in a fireproof dish or add to blends to enhance spiritual focus and clarity.
Not for use during pregnancy.

Growing Information
Folklore

Dittany of Crete was revered by the ancient Greeks, who believed it grew only where no mortal foot had trod. It was sacred to the goddess Artemis, and legend told that wounded wild goats sought it out to heal their injuries. The philosopher Aristotle wrote of its power to draw out arrows and it was used by lovers as a charm for passion and protection. In later magical traditions, Dittany was prized for its ability to thin the veil between worlds and aid in manifestation and spirit communication.

In dried form, Dittany is used primarily in incense, charm work and ritual preparation rather than as a standalone talisman. It is valued for workings that involve risk, devotion or the crossing of thresholds, particularly where desire, commitment or spiritual pursuit requires courage or sacrifice. Its use in love magic is traditionally tied to proof of devotion rather than comfort or harmony and it is also worked with to strengthen protective and spirit focused rites.
