Growing Information

Thrives in full sun and very well drained, sandy or gritty soil, preferring warm, dry conditions. In the UK, Ashwagandha is best grown as an annual or overwintered indoors in a frost free greenhouse or conservatory. Water sparingly once established, as the plant is drought tolerant and prone to rot in heavy or waterlogged soils. Protect from cold temperatures and excessive winter wet.

Folklore

Ashwagandha, the “smell of the horse,” has been revered in Ayurvedic tradition for centuries. Beyond its medicinal acclaim, legends speak of its roots granting vitality and courage, and it has been thought to infuse strength into those who tend it faithfully. In folk narratives, Ashwagandha is a plant of resilience, embodying endurance, quiet power, and the ancient bond between humans and the natural world.
