Organically grown Mandrake – Mandragora autumnalis in a 9cm pot.              A rare and legendary plant, Autumn Mandrake forms a low rosette of dark green leaves and produces striking violet to purple, bell shaped flowers in autumn, followed by small yellow fruits. Beneath the soil, the plant develops a thick, often forked root with a distinctive, anthropomorphic form that has fascinated people for centuries. Native to the Mediterranean, it is adapted to dry summers and mild winters and is both slow growing and long lived.

Growing Information

Prefers sharply draining soil and a position in full sun or dappled shade. Drought tolerant once established, though occasional watering during active growth is beneficial. Plants enter dormancy in summer and re-emerge with fresh growth in autumn. Suitable for container growing or planting in a sheltered garden position with excellent drainage. Generally hardy in most UK conditions if kept dry through winter.
