Organically grown Meadow Arnica – Arnica chamissonis in an 9 cm pot.  Meadow Arnica (Arnica chamissonis) is a hardy, herbaceous perennial native to North America. It grows to around 30–60 cm (1–2 ft) tall and forms clumps of lance-shaped, downy green leaves with bright yellow, daisy-like flowers that bloom from early to mid-summer. Less fussy than its alpine cousin Arnica montana, this species is better suited to cultivation at lower altitudes and in typical garden soils.

Uses

Meadow Arnica has a long history in traditional herbal medicine, primarily used externally. The flowers are rich in sesquiterpene lactones and are typically infused in oil or made into salves to help soothe bruises, sprains, sore muscles, and minor inflammation.

Folklore

Arnica has been honoured in both folk medicine and magical traditions for centuries. Sacred to the goddess Freya, it is closely associated with midsummer. Its golden blooms were traditionally gathered during the summer solstice and used in rituals for love and fertility. In some regions, Arnica was burned during thunderstorms to protect against lightning, believed to hold solar power strong enough to influence the weather. A plant of light, protection, and renewal, Arnica carries a legacy of both physical and spiritual healing.

Growing Information
