Growing Information

Folklore
Woad has been historically valued across Europe as both a working and symbolic plant. Its leaves were famously used to produce blue dye for textiles and, in some accounts, for warriors’ bodies, linking it with protection and courage. In folklore, Woad was associated with endurance, stability and the preservation of boundaries, thriving in marginal soils and often marking territories or important spaces. Though not surrounded by elaborate myth, it carried the character of persistence and respect for order, a plant trusted for its lasting influence rather than immediate show.
