Organically grown Elecampane – Inula helenium, known in Welsh as Marchalan, in an 8 cm pot. A tall, perennial herb growing up to 2 m (6 ft) with large, toothed leaves and vibrant yellow, daisy-like flowers blooming from July to September. Commonly found in damp meadows and hedgerows.

Uses

Traditionally used in herbal medicine as a remedy for respiratory issues, particularly to support lung health and digestion. Its root is known for its warming, expectorant properties. Elecampane is also associated with clarity and vitality in magical practices.

Folklore

Rich in legend, Elecampane is associated with Helen of Troy, from whom its botanical name, helenium, is derived. According to myth, it sprang from her tears as she was taken to Troy. Sacred to the sun gods, particularly Helios and later Apollo, Elecampane was used to strengthen the lungs and ward off illness. In Celtic tradition, it was linked to the fae and was believed to grant protection and wisdom to those who carried it.
