Folklore
Shrouded in myth and mystery, Monkshood has been both feared and revered throughout history. Legend holds that it sprang from the drool of Cerberus, the three headed guardian of the underworld, marking it as a plant of power and threshold. Closely linked to Hecate, the Greek goddess of witchcraft and crossroads, Monkshood has long been associated with protection, transformation and the navigation of liminal spaces. Its striking deep blue or purple flowers, paired with its potent toxicity, gave it a reputation as a formidable ally in magical practice, used historically in protective rituals, talismans and with great caution, potions.
