Organically grown Roman Chamomile – Chamaemelum nobile (syn. Anthemis nobilis) in a 9cm pot. A low-growing, evergreen perennial with finely divided, aromatic foliage and delicate white daisy-like flowers with golden-yellow centres. Flowering throughout summer, Roman Chamomile forms a soft, spreading carpet of fragrant foliage that releases a sweet apple-like scent when gently brushed. Highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, it is equally at home in herb gardens, cottage gardens, and as an attractive edging plant.
Uses
Roman Chamomile has long been valued as one of the classic calming herbs in European herbalism. The flowers are traditionally harvested for herbal teas, infusions, tinctures, and infused oils. Grown in gardens for both its herbal qualities and delightful fragrance, it remains a favourite among herbalists and lovers of aromatic plants.

Growing Information
Thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Roman Chamomile is a hardy perennial that gradually forms a dense mat of aromatic foliage, making it ideal for edging paths, filling gaps between stepping stones, or creating a traditional chamomile lawn in light-use areas. Once established it is relatively drought tolerant and benefits from an occasional trim after flowering to maintain a neat, compact habit. Suitable for herb gardens, wildlife planting schemes, containers, and scented gardens.
Folklore
Chamomile appears in the Anglo-Saxon Nine Herbs Charm, where it is referred to by the Old English name Mægðe (Maythen) and praised for its healing virtues. Throughout medieval Europe it was used as a strewing herb to freshen floors and discourage insects. An old gardening tradition held that the more Roman Chamomile was trodden upon, the more vigorously it grew, making it a lasting symbol of resilience and quiet perseverance.
