Sweet Wormwood is a tall, graceful annual with finely divided leaves and a fresh, camphorous scent. Native to Asia and now grown worldwide, it is best known as the source of artemisinin, a compound discovered for its potent antimalarial properties. Traditionally valued as a cleansing, cooling herb, Sweet Wormwood supports balance and vitality, especially during seasonal change.

Uses

Sweet Wormwood can be used as a herbal tea or incense. Its leaves have a fresh, green bitterness that supports digestion and general wellbeing. Burned as incense, it clears and refreshes spaces, helping to restore focus and calm.

Folklore

In Chinese herbal tradition, Sweet Wormwood known as Qing Hao, has been used for over two thousand years to clear heat and support balance within the body. It was once burned as a purifying incense to drive away illness and negative influences. In European folklore, it shared the protective qualities of its Artemisia kin, symbolising endurance, renewal, and the triumph of light over disease.
