Organically grown Vervain – Verbena officinalis, known in Welsh as Briw'r March in an 8 cm pot. A slender, upright perennial herb reaching up to 1 m (3 ft), with deeply cut, toothed leaves and small, pale lilac flowers arranged in spiked clusters, blooming from June to October. Found in meadows, roadsides, and waste grounds, it brings soft, wild beauty to borders and naturalised planting schemes.

Uses

Traditionally revered as a sacred and medicinal herb, Vervain has been used as a restorative tonic and to calm the nervous system. In herbalism, it is often included in teas and remedies for its mild sedative and digestive properties. Its charming flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.

Folklore

A plant of deep magical and spiritual significance, Vervain has been revered since ancient times. It was sacred to the Druids and associated with the goddess Brigid, as well as Hermes, the messenger god. In Roman traditions, it was used in temple rituals and linked with Venus in love magic. Vervain was believed to offer protection, inspiration, and prophetic dreams, often carried in charm bags or drunk as tea to enhance intuition and spiritual awareness.
