A sacred plant of ancient Greece, Dittany of Crete was dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, and was believed to have powerful aphrodisiac properties. It was also associated with Zeus, particularly in Crete, where myths tell of wild goats healing themselves with the herb. It was thought to expel arrows from the body and aid in wound healing. In magical traditions, it was burned to assist in spirit work and astral travel.
