Organically grown Licorice Mint – Agastache foeniculum, in an 8 cm pot. Also known as Anise Hyssop, Licorice Mint is a hardy perennial with aromatic foliage and dense spikes of lavender-blue flowers that bloom from midsummer to early autumn. Growing up to 90 cm (3 ft) tall, it’s a favourite for pollinator gardens, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its sweet scent and nectar-rich blooms.

Uses

Known for its anise-like flavour, Licorice Mint is often used in teas, salads, and desserts. In herbalism, it’s believed to support digestion and promote calm. It also makes a beautiful cut flower.

Folklore

This fragrant plant blends qualities of protection and sweetness. It is linked to Venus, the goddess of love, and Hermes, the god of communication and travel. In folk traditions, plants with anise-like scents were believed to attract good spirits and repel negativity. Prefers well-drained soil in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Drought-tolerant once established. Suitable for borders, herb gardens, and wildflower meadows. Deadhead regularly to encourage prolonged flowering.
