Growing Information
Folklore
In folklore, Mullein was known as “The Hag’s Taper” for its tall flowering spikes, which were once dipped in tallow and burned as candles to ward off evil spirits. Roman soldiers are said to have lined their sandals with its soft leaves for comfort, while herbalists of old prized it as a plant of courage and illumination. Mullein’s tall, golden spire was seen as a beacon of protection, a light in the darkness.
