Organically grown Skullcap – Scutellaria lateriflora, known in Welsh as Penwisg Las, in an 8 cm pot. A perennial herb growing to 0.6 m (2 ft) with branching stems and small, tubular, blue-violet flowers blooming from June to September. Found in wet meadows, stream banks, and woodland edges.

Uses

A plant of peace and mental clarity, Skullcap has been used in herbal traditions to ease worry and promote relaxation. Used as a mild sedative and nervine to support relaxation and ease tension. Skullcap has also been used in herbalism to promote restful sleep and calm the mind.

Folklore

It is associated with Hermes, the Greek god of communication and intellect, as well as Themis, the goddess of divine justice and order. In folk magic, Skullcap was carried to protect against nightmares and negative thoughts. It was also believed to strengthen the will and bring emotional balance.

Growing Information

Thrives in moist, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Prefers areas with consistent moisture, making it ideal for damp garden spots.
