Sweetgrass is a sacred aromatic herb with long, glossy blades that, when braided and dried, release a warm, sweet, vanilla like fragrance. It is one of the most revered plants used for purification, gratitude and the calling of blessings. Each braid from Pretty Wild Plants is grown and hand-braided at home here in Pembrokeshire, crafted with care to honour traditional practices while offering a sustainable, homegrown source of this sacred plant.
Uses
Burn Sweetgrass braids as incense to cleanse and bless your home, altar or sacred tools. The sweet smoke is believed to attract positive spirits, harmony and peace. Braids may also be hung whole as protective charms or placed in sacred spaces to maintain calm, uplifting energy.
Directions for use
Light the tip of the braid until it begins to smoulder, then gently wave to release fragrant smoke. Extinguish safely after use. A little goes a long way, one braid can be used many times.

Growing Information
Folklore
Known to many Indigenous peoples of North America as the “hair of Mother Earth,” Sweetgrass is burned in prayer and ceremonies to connect with the spirit of the land. The braid symbolises unity three strands representing mind, body, and spirit woven together. In European tradition, Sweetgrass was strewn on church floors to perfume the air on holy days, carrying prayers of blessing and renewal. Sweetgrass continues to inspire deep reverence for the living world, beautifully explored in Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass a modern classic that celebrates the sacred reciprocity between people and plants.
Sweetgrass Braids are worked with to invite harmonious energy, protect spaces and support ritual or meditative focus. They may be burned as incense, placed on altars or kept as charms to maintain a peaceful, balanced and energetically supportive environment.
