Wormwood is a striking silvery-green perennial with finely cut leaves and a powerful, bitter aroma. Known since ancient times as a plant of strength and purification, it has been used in herbal medicine, ritual incense and the creation of the legendary drink absinthe. Its name derives from its traditional use against intestinal worms but its deeper character is that of a boundary keeper, cleansing, clarifying and fiercely protective.
Uses
Wormwood can be used in small amounts as a tea, though its bitterness makes it more often used in tinctures and tonics. It’s also a valued incense herb for cleansing spaces and clearing stagnant or heavy energy.
Directions for use
For tea, steep ¼–½ teaspoon of dried Wormwood in freshly boiled water for 5 minutes. Use sparingly due to its intense bitterness. Burn as incense on a charcoal disc or add to ritual blends for protection and purification.
CAUTIONS: Not for use during pregnancy. Avoid excessive internal use.

Growing Information
Folklore
Wormwood has been used since antiquity for protection, purification and divination. The ancient Egyptians considered it a sacred plant, while medieval Europeans burned it to repel evil spirits and misfortune. It is famously associated with absinthe, the “Green Muse” of 19th-century artists and poets, symbolising inspiration, mystery and the edge between reason and madness. In folklore, Wormwood was hung in doorways or carried for protection on journeys and to keep harmful influences at bay.
